After waking up from a refreshing 5 hours of daytime sleep (night shift last night), I had the pleasure of spending an inspiring afternoon/evening at two different fundraising events.
Whenever I go to these gatherings of people, putting their time and energy into connecting people and creating community, I get so motivated and inspired. I love that we can take our time and use it to create good. There are so many possible options of what we can do with our infinite moments....
I spent the first part of the afternoon at my aunt and uncle's house where they hosted an EarthCorps Fundraising Dinner. There was so much energy in their house! Young people from all over the world (there must have been representatives from at least 10 different countries) shared their stories and learning as a result of their involvement in EarthCorps. Very cool.
I then moved on to a place called Glassybaby, an amazing glass blowing studio in Green Lake where they create these votives/vases/glasses in all different colors. All over the studio lay clusters of flickering candles embraced by these infinitely unique pieces of blown glass. It was a beautiful sight. The best thing about the event was that it was my friend Lauren's birthday and as a celebration, she hosted a party to benefit the organization for which we both sit on as board members. Lauren did such a great job of bringing all these people together to eat good food, see artists at work and make money for FamilyWorks....
I think I would like to do something like this for my 30th birthday. Maybe I'll host a big bash with a band or something and raise money for FamilyWorks. Hmmmm, now I just need to find a band that would donate their talents....I'll have to work on that idea.
It was a really inspiring night. You may have already guessed but the picture is my attempt to capture my new glassybaby lighting the night sky.
