This week I felt very lucky. I spent 7 days hanging out at my grandparent's cabin on Kootenay Lake. It was 48 years ago that my Grandparents were smart enough to purchase land in this pristine area and it has been kept up in our family ever since. My mom remembers spending an entire summer here when she was a child and I think she hopes to do this again in retirement. While I only had a week, it was really fabulous. There is something about this place that just makes me so relaxed. I even had enough patience to sit down and learn to knit. Nelson, the closest large town is filled with interesting people and shops. It seems that the area allows a little more space for people to truly be themselves, I think this contributes to part of the reason why I like it so much.

I think my favorite day involved waking up, going for a 6 mile run then cooling off in the lake. Eating cinnamon buns purchased from across the lake by my aunt and cousin (they took a special trip on a ferry to get these famous pastries). Yoga on the dock. I spent rest of the morning knitting, swimming and chatting. In the afternoon my mom, my aunt and I rode our bikes to this pottery shop run out of a man's house. Mom and I proceeded on to the tennis courts where we lasted about 1/2 hour before we ended up swimming in the lake again (it was hot). This blissful day ended at a local pup drinking ciders and enjoying the view. Needless to say, I was quite tired by the end of it all!
You can have a look at all of the shots from my mom's camera if you click on the above title (Kootenay Lake). enjoy!
